Drivers beware: The deadliest stretch of highway in Cincinnati

On Behalf of | Jul 15, 2022 | Car Accidents

Cincinnati is home to hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom operate motor vehicles on a daily basis. One of the most unsafe roads in the state is also in the Cincinnati area.

As a driver, you make countless decisions every day that affect your safety. Choosing when and where to travel can have a significant impact on your likelihood of getting into a motor vehicle collision. Knowing which roads are the most dangerous for Ohio drivers could potentially help you avoid a crash.

What is the most dangerous road in the greater Cincinnati area?

Interstate 75 is the second deadliest road in Ohio

Determining what roads are the deadliest requires a careful analysis of crash statistics. Researchers looked at collision reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2017, 2018 and 2019. The section of Interstate 75 that runs from Glendale to West Chester Township is the second-deadliest five-mile section of road in the state

The first place position goes to I-71 in Columbus, with a total of 15 deaths in that three-year period. I-75 in the Cincinnati area was the location of 10 fatalities in nine different crashes during those three years. That five-mile stretch of road was also the only Cincinnati street that made the list of the 10 deadliest roads in Ohio.

While you don’t necessarily have to avoid I-75 every time you drive, knowing that your crash risk is higher between Glendale and West Chester might help you keep safety your main focus the next time you are on that stretch of road.

Increased crash risk doesn’t affect your rights

Just because more crashes tend to happen on a certain section of road does not mean that your rights are any different if you choose to travel in places with higher crash risks. You will still have the same options for compensation when you are not at fault for the wreck, including the right to file an insurance claim and possibly the right to take the driver who caused the crash to court.

Learning more about motor vehicle collisions in Ohio can help you be a safer driver and someone better prepared in the event of a collision.
