Car accidents: 2 dead in Ohio

Two people lost their lives following a serious crash on Valentine's Day, according to local police. Ohio authorities in Cleveland are still investigating the accident that claimed the lives of two individuals and injured several others. As with many car accidents of this type, the cause has yet to be confirmed, but police suspect speeding may have been a factor. No charges have yet been filed against either driver involved in the crash.

According to the limited information provided in the report, it appears a northbound vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on E. 93rd when the driver allowed the vehicle to drift over the centerline. This caused a head-on crash with a second vehicle traveling the other way. The second car spun out as a result of the impact, striking a third car. The force of the impact caused significant damage to all vehicles involved.

The driver of the second vehicle as well as a passenger in the first were both pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel. The report did not list the number of other involved parties, but all were apparently taken to local hospitals with varying degrees of injury. Police have not said whether they will be filing charges at this time, but the investigation remains open.

Fatal car accidents are always tragic, and are taken very seriously in Ohio. If the speeding driver is found to have been irresponsible behind the wheel, that individual could face criminal charges and other consequences. Separately, the families of the deceased parties, as well as any surviving injured people, are entitled to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits against the driver deemed responsible in a civil court setting.
