States with Primary-Offense Texting laws See Fewer Deaths

We may soon see changes in texting-while-driving laws all over the US. According to the study, states which consider texting while driving a primary offense have seen an 11% drop in fatalities among 15- to 21-year-olds. Based on the Ohio Department of Public Safety's most recent reports, this would mean that if Ohio adopted a similar law, Ohio might see about 31 lives saved every year. If nothing else, this study hopefully sheds light on how dangerous distracted driving can be: in 2012, 293 Ohio injuries and deaths were attributed to driving while distracted by an electronic device. What should a driver do until Ohio treats texting and driving as a primary-offense? Don't text and drive and keep your eyes open. Simply put: texting while driving is dangerous.

Awareness month cautions texting, distractions while driving

Distracted driving has become one of the most dangerous behaviors behind the wheel. To address the concerns distracted driving poses, safety advocates have named April National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. In accordance with the safety awareness campaign, the Ohio Highway Patrol is trying to educate and remind drivers about the importance of staying focused on the road while driving.

Daydreaming may cause more accidents than cellphones

Distracted driving continues to cause a significant number of car accidents in Ohio every year. Many distracted driving campaigns have focused on the dangers of cellphone use behind the wheel but there are several other dangerous behaviors that cause car accidents that are not discussed often enough.

Who texts more behind the wheel: teens or adults?

Who is more likely to text behind the wheel, teenagers or adults? Surprising, a new study by AT&T found that adults are more likely to be texting while driving despite the wide-spread belief that teenagers are responsible for a majority of distracted driving car accidents.

New Campaign Targets Ohio's Teenage Drivers

Marketing to teenagers is no easy feat. They are knowledgeable, not easily impressed, are often skeptical and expect that if a company or agency wants them to listen, the message better be both important and relevant to their lives. It is not always easy to reach the consciousness of American teens, but at times, doing so is critical.

Ohio Texting Ban Takes Effect Today

Today is an important day for every Ohio resident and visitor. In an effort to reduce the prevalence of preventable car accidents, the Ohio state legislature has passed a measure which prohibits any motorist from texting while driving and bans teenage drivers from using all wireless communication devices while behind the wheel. The new law takes effect today.
