Deadly crash claims two lives in Wayne County, Ohio

A deadly car crash took two lives in Wayne County on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred on U.S. 250 east, just west of Fountain Nook Road. James Magyar, 55, struck Don Grossniklaus, 78, who was traveling in the opposite direction on U.S. 250. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew Magyar was a passenger in Magyar's vehicle, and was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Fatal car accident on I-75 northbound leaves one dead

A fatal car accident on Interstate 75 left one person dead and two people in critical condition this past Sunday morning. The crash occurred near the Mitchell Avenue exit when Ashley Kelly, 22, lost control of her Dodge Journey and collided with a barrier wall. A second driver, James Harrison, 21, stopped on the freeway in a successful, yet feeble attempt to avoid Ms. Kelly's vehicle. Jason Woodyard, 41, was unable to stop, and ultimately collided with the other two vehicles.

Interstate 71 held up by animal fat caught on fire

A tractor-trailer carrying over forty thousand pounds of powdered animal fat created quite the mess this past Thursday evening in Walton, Kentucky. The tractor-trailer caught on fire around mile marker 75 on Interstate 71 northbound, shutting down the highway for multiple hours. The driver of the truck was able to safely separate the cab from the trailer, which housed the highly flammable animal fat powder.

Cyclist hit by truck in Sandusky, Ohio

A 14-year old tenn cyclist suffered severe injuries this past Sunday afternoon after colliding with a Ford F-150. The truck attempted to pass the teen cyclist as both were traveling westbound on Lockwood Road in Sandusky Ohio. The teen turned his bicycle in front of the truck, smacked the truck's windshield, and ultimately fell in the middle of the road.

Can Mismatched Vehicle Height Affect Fatality Rates?

A recent report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that correcting the inconsistency in height between cars and trucks will reduce fatality rates related to accidents between cars, small trucks and SUVs.

Women and Younger Drivers More Likely to Drive Aggressively

In a recent study, women and younger drivers were found to be more prone to road rage than men. The study conducted by Careerbuilders.com revealed that out of the 4,000 people polled, 58 percent admit to experiencing road rage during their commute. Out of that 58 percent, 61 percent were women and 56 percent of men. The study also found that younger drivers were more prone to road rage than older drivers.

NHSTA Sets Standards for Black Boxes in New Vehicles

Starting this month, all new vehicles containing event data recorders or black boxes are required to meet certain criteria laid out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This streamlined approach will help to ensure the black boxes properly record crash information, are universally accurate and operate at a certain level of crash survivability.
