Many people enjoy driving around in the summer and enjoying the sun and warmth as they head to their favorite vacation spots. But, summer can have some of the most dangerous months all year. This can seem strange since the weather is nice and there’s not a lot of snow or rain that typically creates issues when driving.

There are three major holidays during the summer when the risk of driving accidents spikes.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one of the first holidays of the summer and typically starts many people’s vacations. It’s also the fourth-highest holiday for auto accidents with hundreds of people suffering from fatal injuries. Hot weather combined with large queues of traffic can also cause some drivers to lose their cool and behave recklessly.

4th of July

The Fourth of July is a day of patriotic celebration. It’s also one of the top five most dangerous holidays. The high traffic rates because of everyone returning home and drunk driving can cause fatal accidents. Over two thousand fatal accidents have happened in the last five years.

Labor day

Labor Day is a time for reflection and marks the end of the summer. It’s also one of the highest-ranking holidays for auto accidents. There have been just over two thousand lives lost during Labor Day weekend for the past five years.

The main reasons for these days having increased risk are the huge number of vehicles on the road and the fact that many of them will have been drinking.

Understanding when you’re at risk of auto accidents can help reduce your chance of becoming a victim. Some accidents you can’t prevent, and you may need to learn how you seek compensation for your injuries and losses.
