What pictures should you take after a wreck?

On Behalf of | Feb 15, 2023 | Car Accidents

If you get involved in a car accident, it may be important to take pictures after the crash. These could be used when you file an insurance claim, for example, or when you are involved in a lawsuit seeking compensation from the other driver. They provide an account of the crash scene and they help to show precisely what happened. Pictures are a very valuable form of evidence that can be studied by experts at a later date – such as a crash reconstruction team.

But what pictures should you take? Here are a few that you may want to consider:

Identifying information

You will need to exchange your insurance information and contact information with the other driver. At this point, it can be helpful just to take a picture of their driver’s license, their license plate or other identifying information so that you know exactly who they are and how to contact them.

Damage and injuries

You may also want to take close-up pictures of the damage to the vehicle or injuries that people suffered. Of course, getting medical care for the injured should be your number one priority. But these pictures can also help demonstrate exactly what issues the accident caused, which is why you’re seeking compensation.

Pictures of the setting

Finally, you just want to take wider pictures of the scene to show important details. For instance, if the other driver ran a stop sign and hit your car, it can be helpful to have pictures of the sign. The other driver may claim it was obstructed, for instance, but you can show that they just made a mistake.

If you do decide to seek financial compensation, be sure you know exactly what legal steps to take to look after your future right to compensation for your losses.
