Car accidents: 4 injured, 1 critically, in Ohio

A serious crash in Harrison Township has sent four people to a local hospital. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the crash injured four people, including a 1-year-old child. As with many car accidents of this type, this crash is still under investigation by Ohio authorities, and charges have not been filed against the drivers involved at this time.

According to the limited information provided in the report, it appears an SUV driven by an unknown person was traveling in Harrison Township around 11:30 a.m. on April 27 when the accident occurred. The vehicle struck a car attempting to make a left turn, causing the SUV to flip over onto its roof. Four people were taken to the hospital, including a 1-year-old child.

One man in the struck car suffered injuries described as life-threatening. His current condition is not known. Police are not sure what caused the accident to take place, but they have not ruled out driver error on the part of either driver, recklessness, negligence and/or intoxication. Their investigation will continue until a cause for the crash has been identified, at which time charges may be filed against one or more people.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, one or more drivers involved in the crash could face criminal censure for their role in the crash. Even if Ohio authorities choose not to file charges in this case, state law allows victims of car accidents to file personal injury and/or wrongful death lawsuits in civil court. These suits must be backed up by evidence of a driver's material contribution to the accident, and do not require criminal charges or convictions to proceed.
