Car accidents: 2-car pileup sends 4 to hospital

Four people were injured in a serious car accident at the corner of Gettysburg and Wentworth, according to local sources. Ohio authorities on the scene reported that a child and three adults were taken to local hospitals as a result of the crash. So far, no charges have been filed against any of the drivers involved, but as is the case with many car accidents, this one is still under investigation.

According to the limited information in the report, it appears that, just before 6:30 p.m., the evening of April 24, two vehicles collided in an intersection. One vehicle was flipped on its side when officers arrived on the scene, and medics were dispatched immediately to handle injuries. Police closed the road to facilitate their investigation.

It appears that four people, including a child of indeterminate age, were injured in the crash. Their injuries are varied, but there is no word as to whether anyone was seriously hurt. The adults were rushed to a local hospital with the child being diverted to a children’s hospital in the area. Police believe this may have been a hit-and-run situation, with some witnesses reporting seeing a man fleeing the scene on foot. Police have not recovered this individual so far.

Too little information is currently available to make an accurate determination as to how this case will be handled. If it was indeed a hit-and-run, the individual responsible will be hunted down and likely charged, but it is equally possible that other drivers involved in the accident could face charges as well. Even if no criminal charges are brought to bear, victims of car accidents are entitled under Ohio law to file personal injury suits against any driver deemed materially responsible for the crash. These suits are handled in civil court.
