Car accidents: 1 dead in Ohio accident

A 51-year-old woman has tragically lost her life following a two-car crash in Clayton, according to local sources. Ohio police responded to the crash on the afternoon of March 31 in the area of Hoke Road and Salem Avenue. As with many car accidents, this one remains under investigation by authorities, and so far, no charges have been filed.

According to the report, it appears that, at around 3:55 p.m., a vehicle in which the victim was a passenger was headed northbound on Hoke Road when the accident occurred. A second vehicle, driven by a 63-year-old man, entered the intersection of Hoke and Salem headed westbound, and struck the woman's car. The victim was sitting in the passenger seat and was badly injured in the impact. She was pronounced dead some time later at a local hospital.

The driver, also a 51-year-old woman, was rushed to a local hospital along with an unidentified child in the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to a medical center. Their injuries have not been elaborated upon in the media at this time. Police have not ruled out negligence, recklessness or intoxication as possible factors in the crash, but for the moment, they have not filed charges against either driver.

The investigation into car accidents that cause fatalities can be involved, so it may be some time before Ohio police determine the cause of this crash. If one or both drivers is found to be materially responsible for the accident, they could face criminal charges. Separately, the family of the victim and the other injured parties are entitled under state law to file wrongful death and/or personal injury suits against the driver(s) responsible in civil court.
