Detective killed by city employee driving under the influence

Drunk driving accidents happen all across Ohio. But, our state is not the only state where these occur. For example, on what can only be described as a heart breaking Christmas Eve, a police officer from another state was killed by a drunk driver in a horrific crash.

Dede Mengedogt, 32-years-old officer, had worked for the Louisville, Kentucky, police for more than 7 years. On the afternoon of December 24, 2018, at approximately 2:27 p.m., she conducted a traffic stop on a truck. While she was sitting in her vehicle on the far right side of the interstate, a semi-truck crashed into it from behind, pushing her into the truck she had initially pulled over.

None of the four people in that truck were injured. However, her vehicle burst into flames upon impact and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was driven by a city contractor. The driver of the semi-truck was confirmed as a city employee, and was found to be driving under the influence. He was booked into the county jail on both murder and DUI charges.

Families who suffer tragedies, such as this one, due to the negligence and recklessness of a drunk driver should see justice served to the fullest extent of the law, as well as receive compensation. This accident not only affected the family of the victim, but also many others throughout the city in which she was known and loved for her service. The Christmas holidays will never be the same for them, especially those who were forced to witness this tragic scene.
