Recognizing the dangers of trucks on the roads

It is not uncommon for people to underestimate the inherent dangers of trucks on the roads. After all, we see them every day, whether it is a garbage truck running up or down our block in or near Cincinnati, Ohio, or an 18-wheeler barreling down the interstate.

Trucks are generally much larger than traditional passenger cars, both in size and weight. This means that they not only require more distance to speed up or slow down, but that they are not as agile on the roads and cannot maneuver around potential hazards as easily as cars. This also means that when these trucks are involved in an accident, the results are often far more serious or catastrophic for all parties involved.

Truck drivers are also at several disadvantages while traversing the roads. Due to their size, trucks have much larger "blind spots," meaning there are areas surrounding the truck where a truck driver cannot see or recognize other vehicles sharing the road. Trucks are also vulnerable to inclement weather, including crosswinds which could cause a truck to veer into another lane or off the road, and "ponding," which could cause a truck to jackknife. It is also not uncommon for truck drivers to try to push their limits when it comes to their shifts, often driving with illegal logbooks or while fatigued in an effort to meet their deadlines.

With these dangers in mind, it is important to be mindful of the dangers of trucks while sharing the road. Truck accidents can lead to very serious injuries. If you have been involved in a truck accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
