A massive, tragic and fatal accident in Ohio resulted in the death of one woman, many firefighters injured and the closure of the Ohio Turnpike. One incident set off a chain reaction in the car crash that put many injured in various hospitals for medical treatment.

The auto accident began with a car rear-ending the vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old woman. The woman’s car, in turn, was stopped behind a fire truck. The force of the rear end collision killed the female driver and caused her vehicle to catch fire.

This was not the end of the tragic accident. The impact affected the fire truck, which in turn sideswiped a pickup truck and injured the driver. The pickup truck was transporting a car hauler that toppled into the other lane and hit two more vehicles, injuring one of the elderly drivers.

Several firefighters were also injured and one was even flown to an emergency center for immediate medical attention. The turnpike was closed for many hours as the accident was investigated, reconstructed and several factors studied to determine the cause of the accident. According to police present at the scene of the accident, it is possible that criminal charges will be filed.

In addition to, and independent of criminal charges, Ohio residents injured in an accident can also file a civil claim against the negligent party. If the accident results in a death, the victim’s family members can file the claim, and even though it will not replace the loss they have suffered, it may make available compensation to cover funeral expenses and other financial costs associated with losing someone in a tragic accident.
