Losing someone unexpectedly in an alcohol-related accident leaves an impact on everyone involved. This includes not just the immediate family members of the victim, but also by the victim’s friends and all those who associated with them. This seems to be the case in the tragic death of an 18-year-old high school graduate in Ohio as his friends took to social networks to mourn his death in a drunk driving accident.
The young victim was a passenger in the vehicle returning home from a concert when the car he was in was struck from behind, throwing the victim from the vehicle. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the car swerved into a ditch and overturned a number of times. The victim, along with another passenger, was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention for his injuries but he did not survive.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the other vehicle failed a sobriety test and was driving the car under the influence. The drunk driver was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
The principal of the victim’s high school mentioned the victim’s popularity and will offer counselors and social workers to students to begin the mourning period.
In addition to criminal charges, family members can also consider filing a civil suit against drunk drivers to hold them accountable for their reckless behavior. It is every driver’s responsibility to drive carefully on the road, and those who ignore this responsibility can be held accountable for their actions. A successful suit may provide the victim or their family with the compensation needed to heal after the accident.
