Drunk driving accident kills one in Ohio

Even though driving is one of the most common behaviors people across the country engage in, it is also one of the most dangerous. This is especially true if there are negligent and reckless people on the road. In those circumstances, a tragic car accident can take place, and the loss suffered in such an accident can rarely be quantified.

In order to drive carefully, drivers need to be aware not only of changing road conditions, but also fellow drivers on the road, whether they are motorcyclists, bicyclists or as in some cities in Ohio, buggies. According to officials, there are 120 accidents annually between buggies and other vehicles.

One such accident took place at the end of last month. The accident resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man and injuries to four of his family members.

According to officials, a driver rear ended the buggy and did not stop. He told the police that he fell asleep while driving. Officials also state that he smelled of alcohol, resulting in charges of driving under the influence, aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under suspension. The buggy was completely wrecked upon impact with the bigger car.

The accident is still being investigated, and it is possible that the drunk driver may face additional criminal or traffic charges. Even where a criminal case does not progress, Ohio residents may be able to hold a drunk driver, or any form of negligent driver accountable for their actions in a personal injury lawsuit. Though it will not bring back deceased loved ones, it can help ease the financial burden associated with losing the main bread-winner of the family and cover medical or funeral expenses.
