Speeding very dangerous, yet common among drivers

In Ohio, there are many causes of car accidents. Many drivers know that speeding is very dangerous and increases the chances of getting into a car accident. Drivers across the United States understand the dangers of speeding, and a new survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that drivers have mixed attitudes about speeding.

The survey found that 91 percent of drivers surveyed agreed that everyone should follow the posted speed limit. In addition, four out of five of those surveyed said driving the speed limit improves safety and reduces the chances of a car crash.

A majority of drivers seem to understand the risks associated with speeding. Unfortunately, the survey also found that more than 25 percent of drivers speed. Some drivers said they speed without even realizing it, while other drivers said they like to drive fast. The fact that many drivers speed is no surprise, but the finding that 16 percent said speeding isn’t dangerous for experienced drivers is troubling.

Speeding is very dangerous regardless of who is driving. Speeding increases the risk of being in a car accident as drivers don’t have as much time to react to traffic or road conditions. The dangers of speeding are well-known, but many drivers still practice this unsafe driving behavior.

Drivers in Ohio should use the survey’s findings to be aware of the risks on the road, and the importance of following the speed limit. Drivers should also practice other safe driving behaviors like not texting while driving, don’t eat behind the wheel, be aware of the traffic around you and follow all traffic safety laws.
