A tragic car accident occurred this past Saturday evening in Hanover Township, Ohio, devastating the Cincinnati community. The black 2009 Chevrolet, inhabited by three UC freshman football players and one Miami student, was traveling westbound on Stahlheber Road at its intersection with Morman Road when the car unexpectedly went off the road. No other vehicles were involved.
"It was one of the worst crashes I've ever seen," said Captain Andy Wyatt with the Hanover Township Fire Department.
The crash claimed the life of UC football player and Hamilton High School graduate Ben Flick, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Mark Barr, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Sean Vane Dye, of Hamilton, remained in critical condition on Sunday. The fourth crash victim, Javon Harrison, of Dayton, was improved to fair condition.
The Butler County sheriff and coroner offices continue to investigate the accident, suspecting the involvement of alcohol. As of Sunday afternoon, officials have not verified which one of the young men was driving.
"As a father and a coach, it's something you hope you never have to go through. Ben [Flick] was so proud to be a part of this team and university," said UC head football Coach, Tommy Tuberville.
"I can't put into words how tragic this is."
