Officials identified the driver of the vehicle from the Saturday evening crash that involved three UC football players. The driver was Sean VanDyne, an 18-year old freshman at Miami University and Hamilton native, who died at University Medical Center Monday evening.

“This is a time of great sadness for our family…” wrote VanDyne’s family.

“We are grateful to the staff at UC Medical Center for doing all they could to save Sean’s life.”

Officials are still investigating the horrific crash, but they now know that two men were thrown from the vehicle, while the other two were trapped inside. Sheriff officials are attempting to determine whether alcohol was involved.

Lynn VanDyne, VanDyne’s mother, stated, “We ask to keep all the boys and their families in your prayers.”
