Fatal car accidents have decreased so far this year

Fatal car accidents happen every year in Ohio and throughout the country. The National Safety Council and other public safety organizations have been working to reduce the number of fatal traffic accidents in the U.S. and their efforts may be finally paying off.

The NSC recently reported that there has been fewer fatal car accidents during the first six months of 2013 compared to the first six months of 2012. The council reported that an estimated 16,620 people were killed in car accidents so far in 2013, showing a decrease in fatal accidents compared to this time last year.

During the first six months of 2012, the NSC said there were 17,430 traffic fatalities. The NSC has not found specific reasons for the decline in fatal car accidents but said they were pleased that there has been a reduction in fatalities so far this year.

Despite fatal car accidents declining so far this year, the NSC reported that the number of injuries requiring medical care increased by two percent compared to last year. The council said that traffic accidents resulted in 1.8 million injuries where victims sought medical care.

Many motor vehicle accidents result in injuries that require medical attention. Common types of injuries after car accidents include concussions, whiplash and neck and back pain. Victims of car accidents who have suffered injuries may be able to receive compensation for their injuries and medical care, lost wages and property damage. Victims should consult a personal injury attorney to discuss the legal action they may be able to take against the party responsible for the accident.
