Truck driver hits pedestrian bridge, cited for accident

On Behalf of | Mar 28, 2013 | Truck Accidents

An unsafe truck driver’s actions in Ohio could have resulted in severe injuries or fatalities. Luckily, the accident did not end up hurting anyone but the truck driver was charged by police for his unsafe driving behavior.

The truck driver hit a pedestrian bridge while traveling on Interstate 90 in Ohio. The accident severely damaged the pedestrian bridge and caused traffic delays and detours. The truck accident happened after the bed in the back of the truck was raised and hit the pedestrian bridge as the truck drove underneath it. After the truck hit the bridge, the trailer overturned and spilled the limestone it was carrying.

The truck driver was charged with failure to control his truck, unsafe shifting, having loose loads in his truck and driving an unsafe vehicle. The police said that the truck driver had previous citations for failing to control his vehicle on two separate occasions.

Many accidents have been caused by unsafe truck drivers caused by their inability to control their vehicle or when driving an unsafe vehicle that needs maintenance. In this case, the truck driver and the trucking company he works for could be held accountable for the accident.

While this case did not injure or kill anyone, that is not always the case. Commercial trucks and other trucks like dump trucks can be very dangerous on the road, especially if the truck driver does not know how to safely operate the vehicle or if the vehicle has become unsafe due to what it is carrying.

Victims of trucking accidents should know their rights and what options are available if they have been injured due to the negligence of a truck driver or the trucking company. Victims have the right to seek compensation for damages they have endured resulting from the accident and it is beneficial to consult a personal injury attorney to discuss the specific case before filing a lawsuit.
