Ohio to Raise Minimum Coverage Requirements

On Thursday (12/13/12) the Ohio House and Senate both passed bills to raise the minimum amount of car insurance required from $7,500 to $25,000. This will be an important change for an outdated policy. The minimum coverage of $7,500 was set in 1969, and therefore is severely outdated with the price of cars increasing. This increase will have an impact on our premiums, but it should not be any change that is unreasonably significant. Compared to other states, Ohio's minimum amount, and premiums are lower than other states in the country. Currently, the bill is waiting Kasich's signature to move forward with the final stage in the process. With the majority of the cars on the road costing over $7,500, this higher minimum coverage will more effectively protect everyone after a car accident.
