Common injury after crash can become chronic

Many Ohio residents know the discomfort associated with a headache. The persistent throbbing of the head that prevents a person from being able to complete even the most basic of tasks. Now imagine living with that pain, stiffness and headache for weeks, if not months, on end. That is what people suffering from catastrophic injuries such as whiplash after a car crash have to deal with.

Whiplash is an injury car accident victims often sustain. It is an injury that takes place due to a sudden, forceful and rapid back and forth movement of the neck. It’s an injury commonly associated with rear-end car accidents.

The more common symptoms associated with a whiplash injury are neck pain and stiffness, loss of range of neck motion, tenderness in the shoulder and arms and dizziness. It is also possible for accident victims suffering from whiplash to experience ringing in the ears, blurred vision, memory problems and depression. Though many of these symptoms manifest within the first 24 hours after the accident, it is possible that they develop over time also. It is possible for whiplash to lead to chronic pain for years after the injury.

Recovering after an accident, emotionally, physically and financially, can be difficult. Not only do accident victims have to deal with the emotional trauma associated with the crash, they may also have to contend with long-term injuries and the medical expenses to deal with those injuries. It may be possible to ease the financial burden by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the driver responsible for causing the crash and recovering compensation from them.
