Ohio motorists probably know that driving is an inherently risky activity. Not only must people drive responsibly and follow traffic regulations, they must also assume that other drivers on the road are also obeying traffic rules in order to avoid a crash. If two motorists unfortunately get into a crash, there are some elements that might protect them from suffering catastrophic injuries, such as seatbelts and airbags. The whole vehicle itself can protect someone from ending up vulnerable on the road. But, motorcyclists do not have this protection. Their vehicles do not protect them and in a motorcycle accident they can end up hurtling onto the road, without helmets, knee pads or any type of protection from the external elements. This may be why in accidents with motorists, motorcyclists suffer more extreme injuries.
This could explain the unfortunate death of a 34-year-old woman in a fatal multi-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in Ohio recently. A 83-year-old woman was driving a car that authorities claim drifted left of the centerline as it was traveling north on the highway. The vehicle struck a southbound horse trailer that was being towed by another vehicle and continued moving into the oncoming traffic lanes. It then hit a motorcycle that was traveling behind the trailer. The first vehicle continued to run off the road and flip over into a ditch.
The 43-year-old motorcyclist and his 34-year-old passenger were thrown off the motorcycle. The female passenger died as a result of the injuries suffered in the crash and the motorcyclist and the driver of the vehicle were taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.
Ohio families may find it difficult to come to terms with the unexpected loss of a loved one. Family members often want closure and one way to achieve that could be to hold the negligent driver responsible for causing the accident.
