Tractor-trailer crashes into van carrying National Guard members

A truck accident may often end up being more dangerous than an accident involving smaller vehicles, as the size and weight of a truck is much more than that of cars. Additionally, when the tractor-trailer is carrying material that is dangerous, toxic or flammable, a truck accident can put everyone exposed to it at risk. Since truck drivers travel long distances and often work long hours, there are strict federal and state regulations regulating driving hours and the weight of the truck. However, truck accidents still take place routinely.

Ten National Guard members were taken to the hospital for medical attention after a recent truck accident in Ohio. They all suffered serious injuries in the accident, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The tractor-trailer was carrying 44,000 pounds of plastic pellets, which were not ruined in the accident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol claimed that the truck driver ran a red light and hit the van carrying the National Guard members. That was not the end of it, as the truck also hit another car carrying two people. They also were taken to the hospital.

According to the Highway Patrol, alcohol and drugs were not involved in the accident. However, the driver of the tractor-trailer himself said that he realized the traffic light was red when he began entering the intersection, but it was too late to slow down at that point. Charges are pending as the police investigate the accident.

Many factors can contribute to a truck accident, including a distracted or drowsy driver. When a crash does take place, Ohio victims and their family members may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against not only the careless driver, but also against the trucking company that hired him, depending on the facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
