Cincinnati police looking for witnesses in fatal motorcycle crash

Some traffic accidents are easier to determine which driver is at fault than others. For example, in a head-on crash when one driver crosses the center line or is simply driving down the wrong way of the highway, the driver at fault is pretty obvious. But there are some car and motorcycle accidents that can be difficult to reconstruct and thus prove the cause of the accident, and that appears to be the case for one motorcycle crash in which Cincinnati police are looking for witnesses to help determine exactly what happened.

The car crash occurred on a Monday evening around 7:00 p.m. late last month. What police know at this point is that a 40-year-old motorcyclist was travelling east in the 5200 block of Madison Road when he crashed into a vehicle that was turning west onto Madison. The motorcyclist was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to University Hospital where he died. The driver of the vehicle police think was turning west and thus into the path of the motorcycle was not injured in the crash.

Any car accident that results in serious injury or death is thoroughly investigated by police, and this one is no different. At this point police only have the statement of the driver of the vehicle and would apparently like more information from other witnesses before concluding their report. With such a serious accident as this it is important for police to retain as much of the accident scene evidence as possible in order to determine what could have either caused or contributed to the crash. Was the driver of the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs or did he simply not see the motorcyclist?

Because critical evidence can be missed or removed from an accident scene it may be imperative for the victims or family members to consult with an attorney immediately following a serious accident. An attorney will know what evidence to look for and preserve, including any witness statements. A personal injury claim often results in an accident reconstruction team piecing together events that lead up to the accident, as well as those immediately following it. Sometimes just finding out exactly what happened and why a loved one was killed can help family members cope with their sudden loss.
